I've been publishing books at Moran Press for almost three years. The business model to this point has been to distribute books via Amazon. Hand selling copies via the website, Twitter, Facebook, and author events has also been a big part of the revenue with focus on fans wanting signed editions mailed to them.
The success of the personal sales has exceeded any revenue via Amazon. To be blunt - what's worked best has been authors hustling up sales and accentuating the personalized touch rather than people finding our books at Amazon by searching or word of mouth.
Selling enough copies at Amazon can't be achieved only publishing eight to ten titles per year. There's simply not enough new releases to achieve cash flow.
The choice is to dramatically increase the number of titles produced or find other revenue streams.
I wish to maintain the hand picked literary tour of what I believe is must reading in 2018. Therefore the number of titles published can't be increased enough to maintain cash flow. Moran Press needs other sources of revenue.
The goal is to transform Moran Press Group into a Literary Nirvana for book lovers. Publish a constant flow of poetry, stories, and essays to the website. Continue publishing a select number of titles at Amazon. Add handcrafted journals, poetry broadsides, and special limited run letterpress editions to the offerings. I plan to offer custom made literary keepsakes to stand out in the crowded field of craft printing.
Moran Press .com will be an oasis for art and book lovers. I want to group book professionals, artists, musicians, craft makers, poets, and other needed artisans to create a spot unlike anything else on the internet.
